Caherdaniel Village is situated on the original old butter road, with its ancient stone fort nearby. It is an old village right in the heart of the Kerry Way. The village stands on the shores of Derrynane Bay and has a church, a small grocery shop, and two pubs. Home to the great ‘Liberator’ Daniel O’Connell, Derrynane House and National Park are within easy reach of the village.

With charming places to stop and eat – restaurants, pubs and cafes, lovely places to stay, a host of outdoor activities, Caherdaniel and its surroundings give the visitor a chance to enjoy Ireland at its best.

Derrynane

Derrynane is one of the most scenic locations in Ireland. The terrain varies from rugged shoreline to gently rolling mountains. The sheltered harbour of Derrynane was once the haunt of pirates and buccaneers from Daniel O’ Connell’s time. The area still offers a chance to enjoy sporting adventures amidst some of the most beautiful coastal scenery. Castlecove

Castlecove (Irish: Cuan an Chaisleáin) is a village in Kerry on the Iveragh peninsula on the N70 Ring of Kerry road. It is on the south side of the peninsula. “Cuan an Chaisleáin” in Irish it means Castlecove, but the Irish name for the town is “An Siopa Dubh”. Castlecove Village is a traditional rural village full of activities and holds the St. Cohan’s Festival each July. Castlecove has some sandy beaches and rock pools. Its pristine ecological harmony won Castlecove an award at the World Environmental Oscars.

You may want to try out Jim’s delicious cakes and meals at “Bake My Day” café in Castlecove.

The imposing ruins of Staigue Fort are close by and are the finest example of a stone fort in Ireland. It’s about 2,500 years old. The defensive fort, six metres high and four metres thick, was the home of a chieftain’s family and entourage. Westcove pier is a beautiful inlet where you can moor your boat and catch up on a spot of fishing.

Waterville

Waterville is a picturesque little town overlooking stunning Ballinskelligs Bay and also situated near the shores of beautiful Lake Currane which is renowned for the some of the best Salmon & Sea Trout Angling in Europe.

The village is also a renowned Golfing Destination with two world-class Golf Courses. Waterville Golf Links is one of Ireland’s top ranking golf courses and the Skelligs Bay Course also offers excellent golfing opportunities as well as the most beautiful seascapes. Both have some of the most dramatic views of the ocean and the surrounding countryside. Waterville offers friendly Bars, Cafes, and Restaurants, Giftshops, to complete a perfect day out.

The Skelligs

The Skelligs, a Unesco World Heritage site are one of Ireland’s most important monuments. These remote islands rise dramatically out of the Atlantic and bear to Ireland’s ancient monastic tradition.

In recent times many people remember them as the backdrop to the final scene in a recent Star Wars film. They can be reached by boat from Portmagee, which is about 30 miles along the coast from Caherdaniel.
